On November 28th, the award ceremony of the 7th Mingyuan Cup International Home Textile Creative Design Competition was held at Wuhan Textile University.
This year's competition takes "Jingwei · Symbiosis" as its theme and adheres to the organizing principles of "professionalism, innovation and internationalization", aiming to promote the deep integration of the textile industry in the dimensions of ecology, greenness, technology and art. "Jing and wei" symbolize the core textile techniques, embodying professional genes. "Jing" represents the inheritance of traditional craftsmanship, while "wei" symbolizes modern technological innovation, echoing the collaboration among industry, academia, and research. "Symbiosis" advocates the harmonious coexistence of "man and nature, design and industry, technology and ecology".
The competition set up three theme tracks: "Jingwei · Intangible Cultural Heritage" cultural inheritance, "Symbiosis · Technology" integrated innovation, and "Dapu Brand Promotion" integrated communication. A total of 2,425 works were received from nearly 100 domestic universities and design institutions, achieving a dual improvement in both the quantity and quality of the works. After professional review by the expert panel of the jury, one gold award, four silver awards, six bronze awards, two best concept awards, two best application awards, twenty merit awards, two outstanding brand video communication awards, one innovation award for print advertising communication, and several outstanding awards and finalist awards were finally selected from a large number of excellent works.
The creative inspiration comes from the buildings along the central axis of Beijing. Through extracting the exterior shapes and local structures of the buildings, symbolic graphic creative expressions are carried out. Ren Hongyu, a student from Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology and the winner of the gold award, said that the work, through digital printing technology, combines fabrics such as twill silk, bamboo hemp, and corduroy, integrating traditional architectural culture into modern home textiles. The product direction is mainly home textile products, but can also be used in clothing and accessories, creating a home space and lifestyle that combines traditional charm with the flavor of life.
In his speech at the award ceremony, Fu Xin, the president of Wuhan Textile University, said that innovation is the soul of the textile industry and design is the lighthouse of the industry. The school has always adhered to the competition concept of "promoting teaching, research and production through competitions", continuously exploring and deepening the collaborative education between the school and enterprises, and promoting the organic connection between the education chain, talent chain and industrial chain, innovation chain. At the critical juncture of design paradigm transformation and industrial upgrading, the school will drive the future of the home textile industry with the dual wheels of "innovative design" and "exquisite manufacturing".
After the award ceremony, the 2025 Innovative Design and Exquisite Manufacturing Home Textile Forum was held. The forum has set up three parallel forums, namely "Coexistence of Warp and Weft, Intelligent Weaving of the Future", "Boundless Scenarios, Design Rebirth", and the Youth Forum, to focus on the innovative paths of the modern textile industry and the transformation of design paradigms in the era of artificial intelligence. It aims to gather the wisdom of the global academic and industrial circles and distill the development direction under the new paradigm.
